Essential oils extracted from Citrus fruits
Sort by:
The sunshine of citrus in a drop
Essential oils distilled from citrus fruits encapsulate the sunniest and brightest part of the plant world. Sweet orange, lemon, mandarin, bergamot, grapefruit: these are fresh, vibrant, immediate essential oils, capable of bringing good cheer and lightness to every moment of the day. In aromatherapy, they guide moods towards greater openness and serenity, and in the home, they bring a pleasant sensation of cleanliness.
Olfattiva essential oils are pure, whole, and 100% natural. They originate from a careful and rigorous selection process, honed over twenty years of experience, and tell the story of the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest. For citrus fruits, in particular, this care begins with the selection of carefully cultivated fruits, because the quality of the zest determines the quality of the essential oil.
How they are made: cold pressing
Citrus essential oils have a unique characteristic. Unlike most aromatic plants, which are steam distilled, citrus fruits release their essential oil through cold pressing. The oil is found in the oil glands present in the fruit's peel: once the peel is separated, specific machinery proceeds with pressing, and a centrifuge separates the essential oil from the aqueous part.
This method, which does not involve the use of heat, preserves the vibrant freshness of the peel intact. It is also why citrus essential oils are particularly lively and immediate, but at the same time more susceptible to oxidation than other families. Cold pressing also leaves the natural waxes of the peel in the essential oil: this is why, on very light fabrics, citrus essential oils can leave slight shadowing.
Essential oil is the soul of the plant
Every time you peel a citrus fruit, the scent you perceive is that of the essential oil contained in its zest. Essential oil is a complex mixture of odorous molecules that the plant produces for various reasons: to defend itself, to heal, to reproduce, to strengthen itself. From a subtle perspective, it is the soul of the plant: sun, water, air, earth, and subtle energies form the plant and, through the essential oil, interact with humans.
For this reason, it is impossible to synthetically recreate an essential oil: even if its smell is approximated, an artificial reproduction would never have the properties or energetic information of the plant. Olfattiva citrus essential oils are pure and complete, never reconstructed, never diluted with synthetic substances.
How we select them
The selection of Olfattiva essential oils is a meticulous, rigorous, and never automatic process. Each batch of raw material is carefully evaluated before being included in the catalog, through a process that combines experience, botanical expertise, olfactory sensitivity, and aromatherapy knowledge.
For each essential oil, we verify all technical characteristics - complete botanical name, chemotype, part of the plant used, extraction method, origin, distillation quality, and consistency with the specific characteristics of the species - always alongside olfactory evaluation, because the scent reveals much about the vitality, balance, and quality of an essential oil.
Only when all these elements are consistent does the essential oil enter the Olfattiva catalog. When you use it, you hold a carefully selected, traceable, and recognizable raw material: every drop carries the identity of the plant from which it originates.
The properties of citrus essential oils
Citrus essential oils are traditionally associated with good humor, vitality, and lightness. Their fresh and bright scent helps lift the mood, ease tension, and regain momentum in moments of fatigue. These are notes that invite smiles, perfect for times when positive energy is desired.
Many citrus fruits also possess esteemed digestive and carminative properties: for this reason, when diffused, they are particularly suitable for environments such as the kitchen and dining room. Some, like Lemon, also support attention, memory, and concentration, and are excellent companions for study and work.
Among the citrus fruits in the Olfattiva catalog, we find Sweet and Bitter Orange, Lemon, Red and Green Mandarin, Bergamot, and Grapefruit: each with a different nuance, from the sweetest and most enveloping to the most sparkling and tonic.
How to use them
Citrus essential oils are extremely versatile. In diffusion they bring freshness and good humor: use up to 15 drops in water-based diffusers, such as Levante and Maestrale, and 5-7 drops in cold diffusers such as Alarino. In the kitchen and dining room, their digestive properties make them particularly suitable.
In general, we advise against applying pure essential oils directly to the skin: they are highly concentrated raw materials and, if used undiluted, can cause redness or sensitization. For topical use, we suggest diluting them in a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba, or a basic cream, such as the hydrating base cream. Particular attention should be paid to citrus fruits before sun exposure, as they are photosensitizing.
For laundry, we suggest preferring essential oils obtained by steam distillation, because the waxes from cold-pressed citrus fruits could leave shadowing on light-colored garments.
How to store them
To best preserve the quality of essential oils, we recommend storing them away from light, heat, and temperature fluctuations. They are living and precious raw materials: proper storage helps maintain their aromatic profile and properties intact.
Particular attention should be paid to Citrus essential oils, which are naturally more sensitive to oxidation than others. For these oils, we suggest storing them in the refrigerator and using them within 12 months of opening, to best enjoy their vibrant freshness.
Natural, vegan, and cruelty-free
All Olfattiva essential oils are 100% natural, pure, and whole. They are vegan and cruelty-free, because we exclusively use raw materials of plant origin and do not use any animal derivatives. Olfattiva is certified AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi and Vegan OK.
We believe in the law of resonance: what enters a formula carries with it a story, a vibration, information. This is why our citrus essential oils carry only the living and luminous message of the plant, in full respect of Nature and every living being.
What 100% natural means
In the world of essential oils, some words can be ambiguous. They are often used to indicate fragrances that have little or nothing natural about them: synthetic blends, reconstructed in the laboratory, sometimes presented as being close to the plant world. Olfattiva chose a different path since 2006, because our work stems from a faithful listening to the plant.
Our essential oils are pure and complete: they are not reconstituted, they are not diluted with synthetic substances, and they do not contain chemical fixatives. Each oil preserves the original complexity of the plant, its aromatic part but also its more subtle strength, that living quality that acts on personal well-being and the atmosphere of spaces. For citrus fruits, this means preserving the vibrant freshness of the zest exactly as it is in nature, without artificially reconstructing it.
Olfattiva was born from a need for purity and a gamble: a truly natural fragrance is possible. We have been saying this since 2006 and continue to believe it, choosing every day to fully preserve the properties of plants.
The Workshop: where matter takes shape
The Olfattiva Workshop is located in Massa Lombarda, in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of Romagna. It is here that every essential oil is received, evaluated, and stored, and it is here that raw materials become perfumes, synergies, and aromatherapy products, through careful and conscious gestures.
The packaging is done entirely by hand: a choice that concerns not only the doing, but also the way the product is accompanied to its final form. While working, we try to maintain beautiful, clean, and luminous thoughts, because we believe that every gesture leaves a trace and every intention accompanies the matter. For citrus fruits, careful processing preserves the freshness of cold pressing, which is sensitive and precious.
It is this combination of rigor, expertise, and artisanal care that makes every Olfattiva essential oil an authentic and recognizable raw material, the result of over twenty years of experience in the service of Nature. When you offer a citrus essential oil, you offer much more than a fragrance: you offer the living identity of a plant.
Olfactory architecture: citrus in the home
Citrus essential oils are ideal for fragrancing the communal areas of the home. In the kitchen and dining room, their digestive and carminative properties make them particularly suitable, in addition to bringing a pleasant feeling of cleanliness and good humor. For the study, citrus fruits like Lemon support attention, memory, and concentration.
We suggest choosing specific essential oils for the activities performed in each environment: this is what we call olfactory architecture. Citrus fruits are best suited for daytime and active spaces, where their luminosity accompanies hours of work, study, and conviviality.
In combination with an aromatherapy diffuser and a carrier oil for massage, citrus fruits offer a complete experience: their versatility of use is one of their most beloved strengths.
Safe use and practical advice
Essential oils are extremely concentrated raw materials: a few drops contain a large amount of plant. For this reason, they must be used with respect and caution. The most important rule is never to apply them pure on the skin: for topical use, they must always be diluted in a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba, or in a neutral cream, to make them gentler and safer.
When an essential oil is added to a cream or vegetable oil, a true aromatherapy product is obtained: during massage, the active ingredients work locally, while the odorous molecules reach the limbic system through the sense of smell, promoting balance and emotional well-being. This is what we call transdermal aromatherapy.
In the presence of animals, essential oils can be diffused with care and common sense: our pets have a much more developed sense of smell than ours. It is best to choose delicate notes, use them sparingly, allow the animal the possibility to move away, and ventilate the rooms well. In case of doubt, it is always advisable to consult a veterinarian.
Essential oil, an ancient and precious ally
Essential oils have accompanied humanity for millennia. Before distillation processes, people learned to preserve fragrances in oleolites: there is evidence of this practice dating back four thousand years. Steam extraction came later, while for citrus fruits, cold pressing of the peel has always been preferred.
Citrus fruits, in particular, have a long history of use linked to good humor and freshness. Today, Olfattiva preserves their quality with the same care, offering pure and whole citrus essential oils, traceable from the plant to the bottle.
To offer a citrus essential oil means to offer a small concentrate of light: a versatile ally for diffusion, for well-being, and for daily care, to be experienced as a simple gesture of connection with Nature.
Why choose Olfattiva essential oils
Choosing an Olfattiva citrus essential oil means choosing a living, pure, and traceable raw material, the result of a selection that begins long before the laboratory and an artisanal process that preserves its integrity. Not a simple product, but the soul of a plant, brought into daily life with respect.
The sunny freshness of citrus fruits, preserved through cold pressing, is a gift of light and good humor: a versatile ally for diffusion, well-being, and daily care.
When you offer it, you hold a carefully selected, recognizable, and authentic essential oil: every drop carries with it the origin of the plant, the work of the producer, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest. This is what makes Olfattiva essential oils different: not the imitation of a fragrance, but the living message of Nature, preserved without compromise and in full respect of every living being.
Sun, wind, water, and subtle energies become a plant.
Essential oil is the Soul of the plant that interacts with Man.
Frequently Asked Questions

Sì, in quanto Olfattiva è Azienda certificata AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi.
Alarino, invece, richiede poche gocce (5-10).
