Essential oils extracted from Flowering Tops
Sort by:
The balance of flowering tops
Essential Oils distilled from Flowering Tops embody the balance and versatility of the most beloved aromatic herbs. Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Marjoram, Sage: these are essential oils obtained from the highest and most flowered parts of the plant, where aromatic molecules with a rich and harmonious character are concentrated. They are among the most precious and versatile raw materials in aromatherapy.
Olfattiva essential oils are pure, integral, and 100% natural. They come from a careful and rigorous selection, matured over twenty years of experience, and tell the story of the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest.
How they are made: steam distillation
Essential oils from flowering tops are obtained by steam distillation, the most traditional extraction technique. The tops - the highest and most flowered parts of the plant - are placed in the still, where steam passes through them, extracting the aromatic molecules; the steam then passes through a refrigerated coil and returns to a liquid state, separating from the aromatic water in the Florentine vase.
Flowering tops are rich in essential oil and are particularly well suited to this technique. It is from this process that some of the most precious hydrolats are also born, such as Lavender and Rosemary, the aromatic waters rich in active ingredients that are collected during distillation.
Essential oil is the soul of the plant
Every time you use a medicinal herb, the scent you perceive is that of the essential oil contained in the plant. Essential oil is a complex mixture of odorous molecules, and from a subtle point of view it is the soul of the plant: sun, water, air, earth, and subtle energies become flower and herb and, through the essential oil, interact with humans.
In flowering tops, this soul expresses itself with great balance and harmony, because it is here that the plant concentrates the best of its energy at the time of flowering. It is a richness that cannot be synthetically recreated: an artificial reproduction would never have the properties or the energetic information of the plant.
How we select them and the importance of chemotype
The selection of Olfattiva essential oils is an accurate, rigorous, and never automatic process. For each essential oil, we verify the complete botanical name, the chemotype, the part of the plant used, the extraction method, the origin, and the quality of the distillation, always alongside olfactory and aromatherapeutic evaluation.
For some flowering tops, the chemotype is particularly important. Rosemary, for example, exists in different chemotypes - among others, Cineole and Verbenone - each with specific properties and indications for use, because soil, altitude, and climate determine significant biochemical variations. Knowing the chemotype allows us to precisely define the character and properties of each essential oil.
Only when all these elements are consistent does the essential oil enter the Olfattiva catalog: a carefully selected, traceable, and recognizable raw material.
The properties of essential oils from flowering tops
Essential oils distilled from flowering tops are among the most versatile and beloved in aromatherapy. Lavender is perhaps the most precious: relaxing and rebalancing, it aids relaxation and rest, and is among the most suitable essential oils even for children and during pregnancy, starting from the second trimester. Rosemary supports attention, memory, and concentration; Thyme has strong purifying and antiviral properties.
Marjoram is relaxing and calming; Sage is balancing. Many of these essential oils have antiseptic and purifying properties, making them valuable for environmental health and personal care.
For the bedroom, Lavender is perfect for promoting relaxation and aiding nocturnal rest; for the study, Rosemary promotes concentration. For young children, up to 2 years old, diffusing 1 or 2 drops of Lavender in the room is sufficient to benefit from its properties.
How to use them
Essential oils from flowering tops are extremely versatile. When diffused, they purify and perfume the environment: use up to 10-15 drops in water-based diffusers like Levante and Maestrale, 5-7 in cold diffusers like Alarino. Lavender is generally well tolerated even in the presence of animals, but should always be used in moderation.
In general, we do not recommend applying pure essential oils directly to the skin: for topical use, they should be diluted in a vegetable oil or neutral cream. Diluted, Lavender is perfect for relaxing and decongestant respiratory massages; during pregnancy, starting from the second trimester, a small quantity (max 1%) can be diluted in a vegetable oil for a delicate aromatherapy massage.
For laundry, essential oils distilled by steam, such as those from flowering tops, are ideal: mix 10 drops in 100 ml of white vinegar for a natural softening and descaling effect. Lavender is also a protagonist in hydrolats and many lines dedicated to well-being.
How to store them
To best preserve the quality of essential oils from flowering tops, we recommend storing them away from direct light, heat, and temperature fluctuations. They are living and precious raw materials: proper storage helps maintain their aromatic profile and properties intact.
Essential oils distilled by steam are generally stable over time. Lavender, in particular, maintains its relaxing qualities for a long time if stored correctly, remaining one of the most versatile allies of daily aromatherapy.
Natural, vegan, and cruelty-free
All Olfattiva essential oils are 100% natural, pure, and integral. They are vegan and cruelty-free, formulated with only plant-based raw materials, without animal derivatives. Olfattiva is certified AIAB Bio Eco Cosmesi and Vegan OK.
We believe in the law of resonance: what enters a formula carries information with it. This is why our essential oils from flowering tops carry only the harmonious and balanced message of the plant, with full respect for Nature and every living being.
What 100% natural means
In the world of essential oils, some words can be ambiguous. They are often used to indicate fragrances that have little or nothing natural about them: synthetic blends, reconstructed in the laboratory, sometimes presented as close to the plant world. Olfattiva chose a different path back in 2006, because our work stems from a faithful listening to the plant.
Our essential oils are pure and complete: they are not reconstituted, not diluted with synthetic substances, and do not contain chemical fixatives. Each oil retains the original complexity of the plant, its aromatic part but also its more subtle strength, that living quality that acts on the well-being of the person and the atmosphere of spaces. For flowering tops, this means preserving the balance and harmony that the plant concentrates at the time of flowering.
Olfattiva was born from a need for purity and a gamble: a truly natural fragrance is possible. We have been saying it since 2006 and continue to believe it, choosing every day to fully preserve the properties of plants.
The Opificio: where matter takes shape
The Olfattiva Opificio is located in Massa Lombarda, in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of Romagna. It is here that every essential oil is welcomed, evaluated, and preserved, and it is here that raw materials become perfumes, synergies, and aromatherapy products, through careful and conscious actions.
Packaging is done entirely by hand: a choice that concerns not only the doing, but also the way the product is accompanied to its final form. While working, we try to maintain beautiful, clean, and luminous thoughts, because we believe that every gesture leaves a trace and every intention accompanies the matter. For flowering tops, attention to chemotype is essential, as shown by the different versions of Rosemary.
It is this combination of rigor, expertise, and artisanal care that makes every Olfattiva essential oil an authentic and recognizable raw material, the result of over twenty years of experience in the service of Nature. When you use an essential oil obtained from flowering tops, you experience the living identity of a plant.
Lavender: the most versatile ally
Among flowering tops, Lavender is the most versatile and beloved essential oil in aromatherapy. Relaxing and rebalancing, it aids relaxation and rest, and is among the few notes indicated even for young children - up to 2 years old, just 1 or 2 drops in the room - and during pregnancy, starting from the second trimester.
Lavender is generally well tolerated even in the presence of animals, but should always be used in moderation and with respect for the animal's needs. It is a protagonist in many Olfattiva lines: from hydrolats to sleep products, from home synergies to products dedicated to children.
For the bedroom, Lavender promotes relaxation and aids nocturnal rest; for skin care, its hydrolat is soothing and suitable for sensitive skin. It is truly an ally for every home that embraces daily aromatherapy.
Pairings and synergies with flowering tops
Flowering tops lend themselves to the creation of harmonious and balanced synergies. Lavender pairs well with citrus fruits for fresh and relaxing compositions, and with woods for deep and calming fragrances. Rosemary enriches compositions dedicated to concentration; Thyme brings purifying properties.
For those who love to experiment, flowering tops offer a wide range, from the most relaxing Lavender to the most tonic Rosemary. They are ideal for scented laundry, natural home care, and wellness rituals, thanks to their balance between delicacy and functional properties.
Safe use and practical advice
Essential oils are extremely concentrated raw materials: a few drops contain a large quantity of active ingredients. This is why they must be used with respect and caution. The most important rule is never to apply them pure to the skin: for topical use, they must always be diluted in a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba oil, or in a neutral cream, to make them gentler and safer.
When an essential oil is added to a cream or vegetable oil, a true aromatherapy product is obtained: during massage, the active ingredients work locally, while the odorous molecules reach the limbic system through the sense of smell, promoting balance and emotional well-being. This is what we call transdermal aromatherapy.
In the presence of animals, essential oils can be diffused with care and common sense: our pets have a much more developed sense of smell than ours. It is better to choose delicate notes, use them sparingly, allow the animal to move away, and ventilate the rooms well. In case of doubt, it is always advisable to consult a veterinarian.
Essential oil, an ancient and precious ally
Essential oils have accompanied humans for millennia. Steam distillation, used to obtain essential oils from flowering tops, is the most traditional technique, and some of the most precious hydrolats, such as Lavender and Rosemary, also come from these plants.
Flowering tops, such as Lavender, Rosemary, and Thyme, have a very long history of herbal use, linked to their relaxing, tonic, and purifying properties. Lavender, in particular, has always been a symbol of balance and well-being. Today, Olfattiva preserves its quality with a careful selection based on the chemotype of each plant.
Using an essential oil from flowering tops means always having an ally of balance and versatility with you: a companion for relaxation, concentration, home care, and daily well-being.
Why choose Olfattiva essential oils
Choosing an essential oil from Olfattiva's flowering tops means choosing a live, pure, and traceable raw material, the result of a selection process that begins long before the laboratory and artisanal processing that preserves its integrity. Not just a simple product, but the soul of a plant, brought into everyday life with respect.
The balance of the flowering tops, preserved through steam distillation, is a gift of harmony and versatility: an ally for relaxation, concentration, and well-being.
When you use it, you hold an essential oil that is carefully selected, recognizable, and authentic: each drop carries the plant's origin, the producer's work, the extraction method, and the seasonality of the harvest. This is what makes Olfattiva essential oils different: not an imitation of a fragrance, but the living message of Nature, preserved without compromise and with full respect for all living beings.
Sun, wind, water, and subtle energies become a plant.
Essential oil is the Soul of the plant that interacts with Man.
