What is astrology

"What is above is like what is below" - Paracelsus

The etymology of the term Astrology comes from Greek: ἄστρον meaning "star" and λογία, meaning word, discourse.
It is therefore the study of the stars, a fascinating tool, whose origin is literally lost in the mists of time.
The first recorded use dates back to the Sumerian civilization, approximately 3000 years ago.

Since ancient times, the study of the sky has been a tool to understand the nature and destiny of Man. In the classical astrological view, the stars had a deterministic and causal action, thus exerting a direct influence on people's lives.

With the birth of modern psychology, a branch of astrology embraced the vision offered by this science: the discovery that in humans there is a conscious part and an unconscious part. Consequently, the planet is interpreted in a symbolic and archetypal way: what were celestial deities have therefore been identified as parts of man's inner or psychic world.

The fundamental tool of modern astrology is the Natal Chart: this is a snapshot of the energetic contents present at the time of birth, in other words, the signature of planets, houses, and signs on the individual. Through the resonance of archetypal meanings, the natal chart is imbued with propensities, qualities, and potential that will accompany us throughout life.

Astrological Components: the zodiac signs

Aries

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac.
A spring, masculine sign, it represents the beginning, the impetus that initiates everything.
It is the energy of the seed that contains within it the power of Life and yearns to come into being. It is the vital movement that leads to action, so much so that Arians are usually very inclined to sports activities. This sign is governed by Mars, which gives it active energy and strength. Instinctive and courageous, Aries is the pioneer.

Lion

From the family, "I am" is born; from the multitude, individuality is generated.
Leo represents the seed we started with, once it has become fruit: it is full, ripe, flourishing. This maturation is the attainment of the pinnacle of solar qualities: the awareness of one's own personality. After the lunar emotions of Cancer, here we are in the universe of feelings. Leo is connected to love and to the heart, which is the expression of our inner sun: the need to give and receive is innate in him. His challenge in life will be to choose whether to be a just ruler or a tyrant.

Sagittarius

The journey continues with the centaur, half man and half horse. Sagittarius is the opportunity to transform one's animalistic side and to evolve one's spiritual side: it has a goal to pursue. It is the master, the guide, a traveler who uses all available senses to learn from and enjoy life. Fiery in spirit, they need a direction to pursue: this explains the arrow they hold in their hand, their target. After the transformation of Scorpio, Sagittarius marks the ascent towards spirituality. If it does not share and give its knowledge to others, it does not grow in wisdom, becoming silent, cold, icy.

Bull

Taurus is the fertile earth, ready to receive Aries' seed, to be fertilized. It is the zodiac sign most connected to Nature. In Taurus, Aries' impulsive force takes shape. Venus and the Moon govern the sign and give it determination, a propensity for work, and patience. Maternal and generous, Taureans need the security of possession and food: it is a pleasure-loving sign inclined towards practicality.

Virgo

After establishing an identity with Leo, a purification must occur to avoid falling back into excessive ego. This is the time of harvest, when the fruits are gathered and the wheat is separated from the chaff: method and precision are required. Virgo is a sign oriented towards service, cleanliness, and purity. Punctual, precise, with great computational skills and a surprising attention to detail. Being useful for a purpose fills them with joy; their motto could be "Duty before pleasure." Ruled by Mercury, which gives them concreteness and calmness, this sign tends to organize, plan, and maintain control. They can overcome their critical sense by dedicating themselves to beauty, purity, and attentiveness.

Capricorn

Capricorn is the destination we all aspire to.
A sign of elevation and solitude, it represents emerging from the waters of emotions, self-knowledge. Practical and responsible, patient and ambitious, it is governed by Saturn, which marks time. Power, knowledge, and understanding are its keys. Maturity seems to benefit it, almost as if it rejuvenates over time.

Twins

In Gemini, the seed germinates and manifests in multiple forms: Life is in motion, everything is interconnected. The keywords are "multiplication" and "communication."
Eternal children, full of ideas and curious, they feel the call towards new experiences. Geminis are often looking for a soulmate to complete them. Ruled by Mercury, which gives them dexterity and the ability to learn, their challenge is practicality.

Scorpio

Rebellion stems from unity: Scorpio is the sign of transmutation, achieving its own transformation through often painful, but very important stages. It is an extremely sensual, captivating, instinctive, and strategic sign all at once, intelligent. Scorpio will be forced to undergo numerous changes to evolve.

Aquarium

Aquarius marks the departure from Saturn's limitations and its rigidity: it is revelation, inspiration, madness.
Aquarians are children of the stars, distinguished by a strong spirit of freedom and a great sense of brotherhood. Genial, quirky, and revolutionary, eccentric and nonconformist: they long to connect with the entire universe.
Access to the higher waters of the sky has freed them from the burdens and constraints of matter.
Their message is: "we are all connected to each other and we are moving towards the One."

Cancer

From this beginning, from this fertility, the need to create a family manifests itself in this sign. Cancer individuals experience emotions intensely, they are eternal children full of tender sweetness. The Moon nourishes their imagination and leads them to introspection. Cancer individuals are linked to maternity, breastfeeding, nutrition, childhood, and home. They are very inclined to contact with the public, which almost represents an extended family.

Libra

The individual, born with Leo and purified with Virgo, begins to seek union with others, comparison. Governed by Venus and Saturn, Libra is driven by the desire for beauty and justice. Intellectual and diplomatic, it seeks balance and needs sharing. Outward appearance is important, as is being social and maintaining contacts. Its keyword could be "union": it is a sign linked to marriage, contracts, relationships. It will have to learn to take a stand to evolve.

Fish

From the galaxies of Aquarius, we arrive at the nebulae of Pisces. This is a very spiritual sign, always in search of its own roots or celestial parentage. Intuition, vices, addictions, and faith are its daily bread. Extremely imaginative, they experience emotions and the dream dimension with great intensity. Great artists and philosophers are born under the sign of Pisces. Always seeking concreteness so as not to get lost, they wander in the infinite space of memory. Through Pisces, one returns to being the seed that contains everything, and that begins a new life cycle with Aries.
