Plants and Planets
There is an energetic and functional analogy between plants and planets, these are archetypes that have been investigated over the centuries and codified by a large number of scholars, doctors, and botanists.
The Doctrine of Signatures identifies the entire universe as a system of resemblances.
Since ancient times, each plant has been assigned one or more guiding planets, from which they derive certain characteristics. In plant spagyrics, the type of cosmic forces that determine the plant's forms is called signatura rerum.
Similarly, all body parts are also βgovernedβ by their own planetary energy.
Consequently, body parts or functions related to a planet interact more strongly with plants that belong to the same type of energy.
Solar plants
Archetype:
The Sun is the source of vital force, the essence. Its light varies according to the sign it is in, but it remains the identity, the center, the father, the creativity, and the intelligence that governs all things.
Keyword: "I am" or "I live."
Element: Fire
Organs and body parts:
The Sun governs the heart, circulation, and the pons varolii (the vital node of the brain, the pineal gland). The eyes and sight, the spine, and oxygenation are also solar.
Solar plants, examples: Orange, Lemon, Rosemary, Grapefruit
Properties of solar plants:
Solar plants bring warmth, light, positivity, and expansion, which characterize the planet, back to the subtle plane. These are toning, stimulating, regenerating, warming, often circulatory plants that, on a physical level, support the heart.
Lunar plants
Archetype:
The moon is the queen of the waters; it is linked to birth and to the emotions that are the tides that move us.
Kindness, delicacy, and the feminine qualities of identity belong to it. It represents the mother, food, and nourishment. This luminary embodies cycles, thus the beginning and end of all things, night, variability, childhood, and imagination.
Keyword: "I feel"
Element: Water
Organs and body parts:
The moon governs organs related to emotions and water, particularly the kidneys and stomach. Female organs such as the uterus, ovaries, and breasts are also lunar.
Lunar plants, examples: Lavender, Jasmine, Chamomile
Properties of lunar plants:
Lunar plants are cooling, emollient, and soothing. They govern body fluids, reproduction, and digestion. Harmonizing and sedative, they work effectively on the nervous system.
Mercurial plants
Archetype:
Mercury is dynamic, fast, communicative. It represents the mind, thought, and information. It is linked to adolescence and experimentation, intelligence, relationships, and networks.
Keywords:Β βI moveβ
Element:Β Air
Organs, functions, and body parts:
Mercury governs body parts that develop in the form of networks and are linked to the element of air or dedicated to the transmission of information and movement: nerves, intestines, arms, shoulders, hands, nervous system and reflexes, lungs.
Mercurial plants, examples:Β Mint, Basil, Fennel
Properties of mercurial plants:
Mercury represents the sap, that which allows information to travel. Essential oils linked to this planet are often distilled from leaves. In general, these are detoxifying, stimulating plants that aid circulation and respiration and are tonic for the nervous system. In aromatherapy, they awaken communication skills, reflexes, concentration, and logic, and encourage an aptitude for calculation.
Venusian plants
Archetype:
Venus is beauty, harmony, union, grace, art. Venusian harmony is completed in union or relationship with others: this planet governs marriage, attraction, and seduction. Venus possesses a grace that also becomes spiritual. Beauty is linked to health: fertile, comforting, fulfilling, it is what brings pleasure.
Keywords:Β βI pleaseβ
Element:Β Earth
Organs and parts of the human body:
Venus governs the skin, represents the embrace. Also linked to the planet are the nape of the neck, flesh, throat, mouth, and larynx.
Venusian plants:Β Rose, Myrtle, Ylang Ylang
Properties of Venusian plants:
Venusian plants are calming, purifying, diuretic, and anti-inflammatory. In subtle aromatherapy, they magnify personal charm and stimulate emotional contact with the outside world. They help perceive and seek joy and beauty.
Martian plants
Archetype:
Mars is the warrior, active force, courage. Its element is fire, the energy of doing. Mars is the servant of the Sun; in its highest manifestations, it puts its strength at the service of the heart and defends it. If not directed, Mars risks being overwhelmed by the emotion of anger, characterized as it is by speed, combustion, and impulsiveness. It is the iron of the sword, but also the iron of blood.
Keywords: βI actβ
Parts, functions, and organs of the human body:
Head, blood, muscles.
Martian plants: Pepper, Cloves, Cinnamon, Thyme, Oregano
Properties of Martian plants:
Martian plants are tonifying, immune-stimulating, and aphrodisiac. The fire element translates into warming, strongly antibacterial and antiseptic essential oils. Emotion comes from emo-agere, to move the blood: we are clearly in the realm of Mars, which governs circulation in service of the heart (the Sun).
Jovial plants
Archetype:
Jupiter is the great master, representing knowledge, expansion, and wisdom. It seeks knowledge to fully enjoy life: it is associated with conviviality, pleasure, good fortune, and contentment. Jupiter represents maturity, justice, law, decorum, teaching, honor, wealth, opulence, and stability. The nature of this planet is expansive, tending to broaden and amplify whatever it encounters.
Keywords: "I know"
Parts and organs:
Jupiter governs the growth factor, energy generated by nutrition, sugars, and metabolism. It presides over liver functions and the liver, spleen, and pancreas. Also associated with Jupiter are fat reserves, hormonal functions controlled by the hypothalamus, arterial circulation, legs, and thighs.
Jovial plants, examples: Bergamot, Vanilla, Star Anise
Properties:
Jupiter bestows energy, protection, and expansion. Plants dominated by this planet are antispasmodic, balsamic, emollient, anti-inflammatory, metabolism-regulating, toning, and calming.
Saturnine plants
Archetype:
Saturn symbolizes time, goals, and structure. It is the planet of maturity, indicating the path and rules, bringing one back into alignment with oneself. It is associated with old age, as its energy is frugal, cautious, solitary, slow, meditative, ancient, and concentrated.
Keyword: "I am direction"
Organs, functions, and parts of the human body:
It governs the skeleton, ears (deafness), and all concentrated tissues such as those of joints, teeth, and nails.
Saturnine plants: Cypress, Juniper, Frankincense, Myrrh, Pine
Properties:
Among the saturnine plants are evergreen, tall, imperishable trees. Saturn brings to light what is truly essential: its signature belongs to meditative, sedative plants that encourage prayer and contemplation. The planet particularly governs the bones: the essential oils associated with it are often antirheumatic. The impulse towards everything interior translates on the physical plane into conservative energy, into the concentration of matter: several saturnine essential oils are astringent, coagulating, and cold, like Cypress and Juniper. In subtle aromatherapy, Saturn's essential oils help to face change and restore balance where it is lacking.
