Natural perfume: what is it really?

There are different types of natural perfumes on the market. Most of these are synthetic perfumes created from natural molecules. These do not contain harmful substances, but they have no positive effect on the body.

However, there are natural perfumes made with pure and complete essential oils, which bring with them all the benefits of the active ingredients of plants. They work both on a physical and emotional level; they are, in all respects, aromatherapy products.

What is a natural perfume?

Botanical Perfumery is the art of composing a natural perfume using only plant extracts, working with living, plant-based raw materials.

In Ayurvedic medicine, smell is the gateway to the mind: the oldest sense, which can become a great tool for awareness. This vision, combined with a great passion for the ancient tradition of phytotherapy, has driven us to work with essential oils, in an attempt to combine the pleasantness of perfume with a wellness practice.

Botanical Perfumery has completely different parameters from conventional perfumery. By choosing a plant - or a synergy of plants - distilled in its entirety, you will not have the structure or persistence of a synthetic perfume, but you will experience an authentic experience, in contact with Nature.

The complete naturalness of the product is the cornerstone of our work. Olfattiva Perfume Waters are made with a few simple ingredients: essential oil, beet alcohol, water.

How to store a natural perfume?

Plants produce essential oil to protect themselves from mold, bacteria, and external agents: essential oils are by nature natural preservatives, often antiseptic and antifungal. The presence of beet alcohol in the Waters further prolongs and guarantees their preservation. These products therefore do not have an annual expiry date. Waters containing citrus, which are more sensitive to oxidation because they are extracted by pressing the peels, if consumed within the year, allow you to enjoy the freshness of the product even more fully.

- What is a synergy?

A synergy is a harmonious and functional blend of essential oils. When correctly combined, some oils can indeed potentiate each other, so much so that the effect of the blend proves to be better than the sum of its parts. An example could be Chamomile, whose anti-inflammatory action is enhanced by Lavender.

- Does a natural perfume stain fabrics?

Some essential oils are characterized by the presence of colored waxes: with simple nebulization, these do not stain. If a plant with a very strong color is chosen, it is advisable to maintain a distance of at least 30 cm on lighter fabrics. If a bottle were to break on a rug or fabric, it could leave a mark: a simple wash is enough to remove it.
