Essential Oils for Breathing
Essential oils can be true panaceas for breathing, preventing major inflammations of the respiratory system and supporting their treatment. In more serious cases, it is obviously helpful to follow a doctor's advice, using nutrition, rest, and oils as a support for the cure. During winter, it's common to have hoarse or wheezing breathing due to a cold. In this case, steam inhalations are recommended, the classic "grandma's remedy": simply use a pot of boiling water, add 5 or 6 drops of Eucalyptus, and cover your head with a towel to keep the steam in during the fumigations. Additionally, it is advisable to massage the chest with a blend of carrier oil and essential oils of Rosemary and Eucalyptus (20 drops of Eucalyptus and 15 of Rosemary in 30 ml of oil). For those who prefer an alternative solution, a dollop of cream with a few drops of essential oil can be used. If the respiratory problem is due to bronchitis, after consulting a doctor, a massage oil can be used, consisting of 2 drops of Cinnamon, 10 drops of Eucalyptus, 10 drops of Thyme and 6 of Ginger in 30 ml of carrier oil. In addition to the chest, it is very useful to dampen a cotton pad with essential oils and keep it between the foot and the sock all day. It is very important to keep feet and hands warm, and in the evening, before going to bed, a few drops of Ginger diluted in oil can be massaged under the feet. In Chinese medicine, this warming root corresponds to the lung and respiratory area. When there is an overproduction of mucus, it is advisable to exclude animal products from the diet, especially dairy products, which increase mucus production, as well as white flour and sugars that promote bacterial reproduction. If the Eucalyptus is organic and food-grade, a small remedy that can be useful is to dilute a drop in a spoon of honey, then dissolve the mixture in a cup of hot water. During the night, it would be ideal to diffuse some essential oils into the environment to clear the room of dry dust particles and purify it of pathogens. The recommended essential oils are: Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Ravensara, Thyme The oils can also be nebulized in the environments we live or work in, or on the pillow we use during rest hours.
