Essential Oils for the First Chakra

The word Chakra comes from Sanskrit and means wheel, vortex. The 7 Chakras are energy centers arranged vertically between the head and the coccyx: through them, the action of feelings and thoughts is transferred to the physical plane, influencing the function of specific endocrine glands. The First Chakra It is located between the anus and the genitals, connected to the coccyx, opening downwards. It is also called the Root Center or Base Chakra precisely because it connects to the earth and the physical world. The basic principle by which we could define it is the physical desire to exist. Its sphere of influence includes primary needs and the acceptance of one's existence, harmonious living with Nature. Also connected to the first Chakra are the ability to be creative and constructive, to secure material safety, and to ensure the survival of the species through sexual energy. This energetic center is the vital foundation of all other higher Chakras, the source of vital energies: it constitutes the center of cycles from which our subtle energies are activated. Color: bright red Element: Earth Symbol: Four-petaled Lotus Planet: in Ayurveda, the first Chakra is connected to the Sun, the creative energy of all matter Connected body parts: all compact tissues such as bones, teeth, nails. Anus, rectum, colon, prostate. Blood and the process of new cell formation. The adrenal glands are directly involved, producing adrenaline and noradrenaline, adapting blood circulation to external needs. Harmonious functioning If the first Chakra is open and active, there will be a good relationship with the earth, with the forces of Nature, and with all living forms. Existence will be characterized by good stability, great satisfaction, and constructive relationships. The vision of life will be guided by trust and gratitude, creativity, and a sense of acceptance of change. Those who enjoy good functioning of the first Chakra tend to perceive the world as a safe place, which provides them with what they need. Disharmonious functioning If the first Chakra is poorly centered, thoughts will be focused on acquiring security, material goods, and possessions. There will be a greater tendency towards excess, for example, in food and alcohol, as well as an inability to maintain a harmonious lifestyle. Difficulty in letting go and trusting may occur: this need to hold back can also manifest as chronic constipation and weight gain. Actions will be aimed at blind and selfish satisfaction of one's needs, and the feeling of perpetual uncertainty could make one prone to anger, violence, and irritability. Insufficient functioning If the first Chakra were blocked or closed, there would be a condition of physical and emotional weakness. There would be a perennial feeling of insecurity, even regarding the smallest daily actions. If the higher Chakras had developed at the expense of the lower ones, there would be a constant sense of not belonging, a strong desire to escape. Essential oils to cleanse and reactivate the first Chakra Many practices exist to harmonize the vital center of grounding: without delving into each of them, simple contact with Nature and contemplation of a colorful sunset silently work on the Chakra. Sitting on the ground, in the Lotus position, is an excellent exercise to establish this contact. Essential oils are the spirit of the plant, their subtle energy connecting with ours. They work on the deepest and most remote vibrations according to a principle of resonance. They play a fundamental role in the opening and harmonization of the Chakras: the strength of the plant's prana works on our prana, awakening and moving our subtle energies. Regarding the first Chakra, the most suitable essential oils are Atlas Cedar, Vetiver, Ginger, Patchouli, Myrrh. Application Dilute the essential oil (30%) in a cold-pressed vegetable oil (70%): Jojoba, Almond, etc. Massage 10 drops of this mixture onto the Chakra, massaging counter-clockwise and visualizing the energy center. This application can be done before meditation, Yoga, after a massage, or simply before going to sleep. Alternatively, pour 6-12 drops of essential oil into a bowl of water, soak a cloth, and place it as a warm compress on the Chakra, covering it with a towel and waiting until it has completely cooled.
