Anti-moth essential oils

Scenting linen and drawers while protecting fabrics from moth attacks is a small challenge for many. Our grandmothers, with their ancient popular knowledge, used delightful embroidered lavender sachets. Cloth merchants travelling the Silk Road would insert some spices among the skeins for the same purpose. Although today quick and practical solutions are preferred, there are ecological and natural methods that guarantee complete effectiveness.

There are many essential oils that repel not only moths but also woodworms. Cinnamon is a valid remedy, whether in sticks inside drawers, crushed and mixed with cloves in small sachets, or as an essential oil on wood and fabrics, it protects clothes by spreading its enveloping scent. Cloves are equally unwelcome to moths: a trick can be to put a handful of them in the pockets of the most delicate clothes. Clove essential oil, as well as Cinnamon, can also be used on a cloth to wipe furniture doors.

Patchouli, Atlantic Cedar and Lavender essential oils stand out among natural moth repellents: it will be sufficient to spray the diluted essential oil directly on clothes (Olfattiva's perfumed waters can be used for this purpose) or to equip drawers with impregnated woods, cotton balls or fabrics. A few drops of pure essential oil are sufficient, to be reapplied when the scent is no longer perceived.

Cypress Wood and Atlantic Cedar essential oils are particularly effective against woodworms, so much so that scented woods with these oils were once inserted into furniture during their construction.
